Some of the most popular U.S. television shows in China are not watched via Chinese television stations, which are subject to tight government control, but on the Internet. Now that may change. The Wall Street Journal reported that China’s State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television is expected to focus now on streaming video sites and require that foreign TV shows not make up more than 30 percent of TV content on those sites. Such a ruling would strongly impact some of the most popular video streaming services on the mainland, including Youku Tudou and, which stream such popular shows as The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls and House of Cards. claims that The Big Bang Theory was attracting more than 120 million viewers per month before regulators pulled it in April without explanation.
