FOX FLACK TO REPORTER: YOUR AFFLECK INTERVIEW IS ABOUT OUR MOVIE

Celebrity and studio publicists earn their living by endeavoring to steer reporters’ interviews with their clients. At times, however, those reporters — risking the possibility that the publicists will put their names on a blacklist and refuse to make their clients available to them for interviews — may balk at the restrictions the publicists impose. Such apparently was the case with Miami Herald film critic Rene Rodriguez, who was set to interview Ben Affleck in connection with his upcoming (October 3) film Gone Girl, when, according to Rodriguez’s Facebook page, the following conversation took place between him and a 20th Century Fox publicist (unnamed): "Publicist: ‘So when you’re talking to Ben Affleck, please try to refrain from asking questions about other projects he’s working on, because our time is limited." Rodriguez: "What other projects? I haven’t heard of anything." Media critic Jim Romanesko posted Rodriguez’s Facebook entry on his own blog today (Wednesday), calling it "the best status update I’ve seen today."
