GROUP OF DISNEY ARTISTS PLAN TO REVIVE HAND-DRAWN ANIMATION

A group of artists from Disney’s old school of hand-drawn animation are set to produce a short film, Hullabaloo, in the hopes of saving the art form from extinction The group launched an Indiegogo campaign to finance the project and exceeded (by $26,000) its Indiegogo campaign goal of funding the short for $80,000. The campaign assured its Indiegogo investors that its intention is to help preserve the dying art of 2D animation. It said that while the film should be able to stand on its own, the goal is to raise enough funds through non-traditional sources to turn the film into a major feature presentation. The group’s effort is reminiscent of former Disney animator Don Bluth’s to revive classical, hand-drawn animation in the early ’80s with such films as The Secret of Nimh and An American Tail.
