Piers Morgan has disclosed via Twitter that CNN chief Jeff Zucker offered him a new two-year deal to remain at CNN to host a series of 40 celebrity interview specials. "But after considerable thought, I decided not to accept it — and to try pastures new," he wrote. Morgan, who reportedly has 4 million Twitter followers, sent out a series of tweets beginning with "BREAKING NEWS: I am no longer a @CNN employee." Also included in the series of tweets was a link to a YouTube video of his interview with conservative talk-show host Alex Jones, who created an online petition calling for Morgan to be deported. (At one point in the interview, Jones shouted at Morgan: "1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms! … We will not relinquish them! Do you understand?" He ended his remarks by calling Morgan a Redcoat.) Referring to the interview, Morgan tweeted: "If I am to be remembered for anything CNN, I’d like it to be this."
