NO IMPROVEMENT FOR FEMALE AND MINORITY DIRECTORS

Of some 9,000 European films released between 2003 and 2012, only 16.3 percent were directed women, according to a study by the European Audiovisual Observatory. Even more striking may be the fact that those female-directed films attracted just 8.9 percent of 3.2 billion admissions. In a related development, a study released on Wednesday by the Directors Guild of America found that 69 percent of all television episodes produced in 2013-14 were directed by white males, a percentage that has remained a constant since 2010. Of 776 directors of episodic TV during the 2013-14 season, 647 were male; 681 were white; 52 were black; 24 were Latino; and 19 were Asian Americans.
