The season finale of America’s Got Talent Wednesday night attracted 11.98 million total adult viewers and a 2.3 rating and an 8 share among the key 18-49 age group. While it was Wednesday’s most-watched show on television the preliminary ratings were down 8 percent from last year’s season finale. The previous night, AGT recorded 11.3 million viewers and a 2.5/9 rating among the key demo. Meanwhile, the series premiere of the highly hyped Red Band Society proved to be a disappointment. While some analysts had forecast that the series would help resurrect Fox, which plummeted in the ratings last season, it drew only 4 million viewers and just a 1.3/4 in the demo. However, the series premiere of NBC’s The Mysteries of Laura rode the tails of the AGT finale to win the 10:00 p.m. hour with 10.43 million viewers. (Last year’s revival of Ironside in the same slot drew just 6.8 million viewers, NBC’s lowest-rated fall debut ever.) CBS’s summer drama Extant, which started the season with solid numbers, fizzled out in its finale with just 5.45 million.
