STREAMING TO TV SETS: MOST USE GAME CONSOLES

September 24, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Settop boxes and "smart" TVs capable of delivering streaming video to TV screens have proliferated in recent years, but research from Parks Associates indicates that 75 percent of homes connected via broadband to the Internet use a gaming console to access movies and TV shows from the Internet at least once a week and nearly 40 percent do so for more than 10 hours per week. The most used gaming console for such use is Sony’s PlayStation 4 although it is in only 27 percent of households, versus Nintendo Wii and Xbox, which are in 35 percent of households with broadband. As for all those settop boxes dedicated to bringing streaming video to TV sets, including Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Google TV and Google Chromecast, they’re used by just 12 percent of households.
