SURVEY: NETFLIX SUBSCRIBERS STILL WATCHING AS MUCH REGULAR TV

It was a curious result. Netflix subscribers watch 7.1 TV shows per week and 3.8 movies. Nevertheless, when pollsters asked them how that many hours of streaming affected their regular TV viewing, most indicated "a neutral to slightly positive impact." A Netflix subscription did result in viewership of pay-TV channels, such as HBO and Starz, as well as video-on-demand sites. Advertising Age magazine, which reported on the results of the study by GfK, noted that ownership of devices that stream Netflix directly to TV sets increased 15-25 percent over the past year. In addition, the survey found that the proportion of cable cutters in the U.S. grew to 7 percent and that the proportion of Netflix users who said that they often "binge view" TV series grew to a whopping 29 percent.
