TV audiences can’t get enough football. The sport already dominates the primetime ratings on Sunday and Monday with NFL contests on NBC and ESPN respectively (and on Saturdays with college games on ABC) has now taken over on Thursdays, too. The premier of CBS’s Thursday Night Football, featuring the Baltimore Ravens versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, averaged 15.91 million viewers, nearly twice the number of viewers watching all the other broadcast networks combined. Ratings for the game peaked in the 9:00 p.m. half hour with 17.36 million viewers tuning in. Results among the 18-49 age group were even more lopsided, with the football telecast receiving a 5.5 rating and a 17 share. Its closest competitor was the season premiere of NBC’s The Biggest Loser with a 1.6/5.
