The new season of NFL football got off to a solid start on NBC Thursday night (NBC still calls it Sunday Night Football; Thursday Night Football will be televised by CBS this year) as the Seattle Seahawks/Green Bay Packers telecast attracted 23.7 million viewers and drew a 9.0 rating among the 18-49 age group. The game peaked in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour as 25.82 million viewers tuned in. All of those figures may have been down from last year’s opening game but they nevertheless represented the third-highest ratings ever for a Thursday night season opener. (Moreover the numbers could be adjusted upwards when final ratings results are released later today.)
