WHAT DID NFL KNOW ABOUT RICE AND WHEN DID IT KNOW IT?

A law enforcement official claims he sent a copy to NFL headquarters of the elevator video showing the Baltimore Ravens’ Ray Rice punching and apparently knocking out his then fiancée last April, the Associated Press reported on Wednesday. The revelation of the video by TMZ this week prompted the Ravens to fire Rice and the NFL to hand him an indefinite suspension. The unnamed official told AP reporter Rob Maaddi that although he was not authorized to do so, he decided to send the video to the league so that it would see it before it decided on Rice’s punishment. Maaddi said he listened to a voicemail, left on April 9, that appeared to confirm that the NFL had received the video and that it had been viewed, although who had done so could not be confirmed. An NFL spokesman later told CBS News, "We are not aware of anyone in our office who possessed or saw the video before it was made public on Monday. We will look into it." The league later announced that it had hired former FBI Director Robert Mueller to head an investigation of the matter.
