CAMERON: WHEN MOVIES AND VIDEO GAMES MERGE

James Cameron foresees the day when feature films will incorporate some of the aspects of video games. Speaking at a Wall Street Journal-sponsored digital conference in Laguna Beach, CA, Cameron observed, "At what point are we going to say cinema is cinema, games are games, is there a new narrative art form that involves aspects of both?" He predicted that virtual-reality headsets like Oculus Rift would one day become standard, allowing viewers to look around sets during the action, thereby blending some elements of video games into the narrative. He himself, he indicated, is working closely with special effects creators on the scripts for the forthcoming Avatar sequels he said and is wearing virtual reality headsets as he directs the films.
