CHINESE CENSORS BLOCK BBC WORLD SERVICE

Presumably concerned about the possibility that the pro-democracy protests that have crippled much of the Hong Kong business sector could spread to the mainland, China has blocked the website of the BBC, which has been uploading numerous news accounts of the protests, including video of clashes between the demonstrators and police. Chinese censors had already blocked the Bloomberg and New York Times websites. In a statement, Peter Horrocks, director of the BBC World Service, said: "The BBC strongly condemns any attempts to restrict free access to news and information and we are protesting to the Chinese authorities. This appears to be deliberate censorship."
