Although the top films at the weekend box office took in less than analysts had forecast, final figures indicated that overall it was up more than 30 percent above the same weekend last year, when Gravity held on to first place for a third week with $30.02 million. This weekend’s top film was Sony’s Fury, which debuted with $23.70 million, well below most predictions. Twentieth Century Fox’s Gone Girl slipped to second place with $17.51 million, edging out Fox’s The Book of Life, which opened with $17.01 million. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day placed fourth with $11.46 million, while The Best of Me rounded out the top five with a disappointing opening of $10 million.
