Boyhood and Birdman received the most nominations for the 2014 Gotham Independent Film Awards, handed out annually by the Independent Filmmaker Project. The awards, originally handed out to filmmakers on the East Coast, but now accepts entries from Los Angeles and overseas, selected Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, which he filmed over a 12-year period, in four categories, including Best Feature. Along with Birdman, which received nominations in two categories, other films that received Best Feature nods were the Grand Budapest Hotel, Love Is Strange and Under the Skin. Winners will be announced December. 1 at a ceremony held at the Cipriani restaurant in Gotham (sometimes known as New York City).
