ISIS ISSUES RULES TO REPORTERS — BANS AL JAZEERA

October 8, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

ISIS’s newly published rules for journalists covering the areas of Iraq under its control — what it calls "the governate" — includes 11 restrictions that make it clear that it will tolerate no criticism and that journalists must submit their copy to ISIS’s media office before it can be published. It particularly ruled out any co-operation with the Arab news channels Al-Jazeera, Al-Arabiya, and Orient. Iraqi journalists, it said, "can work directly with international news agencies (such as Reuters, AFP and AP), but they are to avoid all international and local satellite TV channels." Those satellite channels, it said, have been placed on a "blacklist," and journalists are expressly "forbidden to work in any way" with them. "Violators," it warned, "will be held accountable."
