NETFLIX GOES NOT SO GENTLY DOWN THE STREAM

Netflix shares continued their fall on the Nasdaq today (Friday), falling an additional 5 percent to $344. Forbes magazine contributor John Archer noted today that one of the factors contributing to the company’s troubles is its recent decision to up the subscription costs for people who want to watch its limited Ultra High Definition 4K content from $7.99 to $11.99 a 50-percent increase. "The size of this price hike," Archer wrote, "is staggering." Moreover, he added, it "seems to show the company moving from a policy of focusing on subscription number growth to a policy of getting more out of the subscribers it’s got." Another irritant is the fact that the $11.99 subscription fee gets them very little beyond Breaking Bad, House of Cards, a few documentaries "and a very small selection of films."
