SUMMER MOVIES STOKE FALL SALES

Another summer blockbuster has landed at the top of the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert home-video sales chart. This time it was Paramount’s Transformers: Age of Extinction, which won the home-video trifecta: tops in sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs, and rentals. A set of all four Transformers films landed at No. 9 on the list, although it was only available at Walmart sores. In second place was last week’s winner, Universal’s Neighbors, but Nielsen said that it sold just 12.8 percent as many copies as the Transformers sequel on DVD and just 6.8 percent as many on Blu-ray Disc. On Home Media magazine’s rental chart, the Transformers movie pushed last week’s top rental, Warner Bros.’ Blended, to No. 2. Paramount does not require Netflix and RedBox to wait 28 days from the release date before they can rent its films.
