WHICH MOVIE IS SELLING THE MOST TICKETS?

The movie that sold the most tickets on Fandango.com and MovieTickets.com on Thursday was not one of the films being released this weekend. It wasn’t even one of the films being released next weekend, when expected hits Interstellar (which actually opens in a limited number of theaters on Wednesday) and Big Hero 6, debut. In fact, the movie that sold the most tickets won’t even open until Nov. 21. The film is Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1, which the two online ticket sellers said sold more first-day advance tickets than any other film this year (accounting for 80 percent of Fandango’s sales). According to the Los Angeles Times, the penultimate Hunger Games installment could open to between $130 million and $160 million. Last year’s The Hunger Games: Catching Fire also opened in November, grossing $161 million.
