AMERICAN IDOL: AND THEN THERE WAS ONE

November 12, 2014 by · Leave a Comment

Only host Ryan Seacrest remains. Like Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, music producer Randy Jackson is leaving American Idol, he announced on Tuesday. Abdul left in 2009; Cowell, the following year. Those two, who with Jackson made up the original judging panel, were replaced by high-profile celebrities in a failed effort to boost ratings. In fact, ratings for the show fell to their lowest point ever last season. Jackson, who transitioned to mentoring contestants after serving as a judge for 13 seasons, issued no statement on Tuesday. However, the network and production companies 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia North America, said that Jackson "provided great advice and support, shaping the success of so many Idols we have discovered over the years. … We hope he’ll visit from time to time."
