ANDREW LACK RETURNING TO NBC NEWS: WILL BRIAN WILLIAMS BE FAR BEHIND?

March 6, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

As was widely predicted, Andrew Lack, often credited for the ratings success of NBC News’s principal programs, including Nightly News, The Today Show, Meet the Press, and Dateline between 1993 and 2003, is returning to the Peacock’s nest as chairman of NBC News and MSNBC. He will be expected to jack up the ratings of NBC News’s programs, which have fallen, in some cases dramatically, in recent years. He is also regarded as a close friend of Brian Williams, whom he groomed to take over the Nightly News anchor desk from Tom Brokaw. Until Thursday’s announcement of Lack’s return, many analysts had forecast that Williams’s career at NBC News was kaput and that his six-month suspension would be made permanent. “The best chance for reclaiming Brian is Lack, because Lack created Brian,” an unnamed agent who handles news talent told the Los Angeles Times.
