“FURIOUS 7” ROARS TO THIRD WIN

Furious 7 easily held off competition from newcomers Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and Unfriended, earning an estimated $29.1 million to remain No. 1 at the box office for a third weekend. The film has now earned about $294 domestically. And while that figure may seem impressive, it pales in comparison with the $856 million that it has already earned overseas, including $250 million from China alone — raked in over  just the past eight days. Coming in second in North America was Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, which opened with an estimated $24 million, despite not a single positive review from a major film critic. Holding down third place was the low-budget horror flick Unfriended, which opened with a solid $16 million.

The top ten films at the box office over the weekend according to estimates compiled by Rentrak:
1. Furious 7, $29.1 million; 2. Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2, $24 million; 3. Unfriended, $16 million; 4. Home, $10.3 million; 5. The Longest Ride, $6.9 million; 6. Get Hard, $4.8 million; 7. Monkey Kingdom, $4.7 million; 8. Woman In Gold, $4.6 million; 9. The Divergent Series: Insurgent, $4.2 million; 10. Cinderella, $3.9 million.
