Avatar continued to move full-steam-ahead towards Titanic, aiming to displace James Cameron's previous blockbuster at the top of the list of all-time box-office winners. During a week when ticket sales generally fall precipitously, Avatar earned $8.9 million on Monday and $7.3 million on Tuesday, to bring its current domestic gross to $367.5 million and its worldwide gross to $1.1 billion. That moved it past Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest to make it the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, behind Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. It is almost certain to overtake the latter film by the end of the week -- but still has a long way to go to overtake Titanic, which earned $1.84 billion.
