When it comes to 3D and digital cinematography, Batman director Christopher Nolan and his cinematographer, Wally Pfister, are seemingly Luddites. In separate interviews, each has indicated that the next Batman movie will be shot on film in 2D. Nolan, in particular, has repeatedly suggested that 3D is merely a fad and that by the time the next Batman movie goes into production it will probably have faded away. In an interview with the Cinematical website, Pfister agreed, but said that neither he nor Nolan has ruled out the possibility of shooting the next Batman sequel in the format. More likely, he indicated, is that it will be shot using the huge IMAX film cameras, which he said, would result in “something cool and something interesting.”
