Jay Leno has acknowledged that Conan O’Brien “got screwed” by NBC during its late-night shakeup this year. But he quickly added, “I got screwed” as well (although he did not explain how he had been mistreated by the network, given the fact that it reinstated him as host of The Tonight Show). Leno’s remarks came during an interview with Joy Behar for her HLN show, recorded in the Green Room at NBC prior to her appearance Tuesday on Tonight. “This is TV,” he said. “The reason show business pays a lot of money is so when you get screwed you’ve got something left over. … Conan was treated terribly, and I was treated terribly.” Leno seemed confident that O’Brien will be making a comeback later this year — probably against Tonight. “I think Conan will come back and he’ll be strong,” he said, “And we’ll all compete against one another. It should be me against Letterman, against Conan, against Kimmel, and then you see who wins.” He indicated he bears no hard feelings against the comedians who pummeled him during the NBC debacle. “All comics are friends, (but) when you go onstage your job is to blow the other guys off the stage. I get it. That’s the way it works.”
