NEW TAX INCENTIVES KEEP MOVIES SHOOTING IN L.A.

In yet another indication of an uptick in movie production in Hollywood, the Los Angeles Times reported today (Wednesday) that several films with top stars are currently being shot locally, thanks to new tax incentives. In particular it cited the independently produced The Good Doctor, starring Orlando Bloom, who is also one of the producers. Another producer, Jonathan King, told the newspaper that the movie might have been shot in North Carolina or Georgia if state lawmakers had not approved the new tax incentives last year. “We very much wanted to be here so everybody could sleep in our own beds,” King was quoted as saying. The $1.1-million tax credit that the movie received, he said, “put us over the top.”
