REDBOX SAYS NOT ALL DVD’S WILL BE DELAYED 28 DAYS
Kiosk operator Redbox said Wednesday that it does not expect a 28-day delay to be the norm for every studio’s DVD releases. As reported by Home Media magazine, the company’s chief financial officer, J. Scott Di Valerio, told a Boston technology and media conference that some studios are actually “pleased with the agreements we have.” Among them, he noted, are Sony Pictures, Paramount, Lionsgate and Disney. Even Alice in Wonderland, he noted, will be going into Redbox kiosks on June 1, the same day that the movie hits sales racks in stores. (Disney moved up the release date of the Alice DVD, infuriating several exhibitors.) Di Valerio also said that the kiosks will begin stocking Blu-ray titles during the second half of this year “at a premium.” He did not indicate how much that premium will be.
