FOX WINS FINAL WEEK OF SEASON

Season finales of American Idol on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week gave Fox an easy win for the final week of the 2009-2010 season. Wednesday’s telecast, which saw the winner named and Simon Cowell feted on his departure, drew 24.22 million viewers, while Tuesday’s final-performance installment drew 20.07 million. While those were impressive numbers by ordinary standards, by American Idol standards, they were the poorest since the show debuted as a summer replacement in 2002. ABC’s Dancing With the Stars also went out with huge numbers, attracting 19.36 million viewers on Monday and 18.40 million on Tuesday. The rest of the top-ten were the usual CBS contenders. For the week, Fox placed first with a 5.6 average rating and a 10 share. CBS placed second with a 5.1/9. ABC followed with a 4.2/8, and NBC remained a distant fourth with a 2.9/5.
