PANASONIC PRODUCING BIGGEST 3D SCREEN

Japan’s Panasonic on Wednesday introduced a 3D plasma display measuring a whopping 12 1/2 feet across and featuring 4096 x 2160 resolution, providing twice the definition of the average digital 3D projector in theaters. The Osaka-based company said that the display, the largest 3D unit on the market, will become available in U.S. stores in January but it did not indicate what the pricetag will be. It said that in December it will also introduce an 8 1/2-foot unit and a 7-foot unit at suggested list prices of $65,000 and $45,000 respectively. While such displays will no doubt be snatched up quickly by wealthy owners of home theaters, they are also expected to be used in corporate environments, screening rooms, digital billboards, schools, and “entertainment staging,” the company said, while boasting that the displays will reproduce “the detail and texture of the original images with near perfection.”
