Demonstrating the amazing strength of a single movie, 20th Century Fox said on Tuesday that it had passed $2 billion in ticket sales at the overseas box office for 2010, with $1.4 billion — or 70 percent — attributed to Avatar. Since it opened in December the film has earned $1.99 billion at the foreign box office. Also contributing to its record receipts abroad, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel brought in $152.5 million and Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief collected $138 million.
