Yanked from 3D theaters while it was still earning millions in them each week — James Cameron’s Avatar is set to return on August 27, the director announced Wednesday. “Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we’re making that possible,” Cameron said in a statement. The audiences will be staying eight minutes longer. Cameron’s “Special Edition” will include new creatures and action scenes, he revealed. “Whether you already love the movie or you’ve never seen it, with this special edition you’ll be seeing it like never before,” he said. The film is also being re-released overseas on the same date and will be able to take advantage of a surge in digital 3D installations abroad since its initial screening. In India, Vijay Singh, CEO of Fox Star Studios India, said, “With the significant growth of 3D screens over the last six months, we are excited that Avatar will also reach out to new audiences in 3D across many more centers around the country.”
