“ECLIPSE” CAN’T ECLIPSE “NEW MOON”
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse raked in $68.5 million in ticket sales domestically on Wednesday, but it did not eclipse the last Twilight movie, New Moon, which opened last November with $72.7 million. According to Summit Entertainment, its producer, the film went on to collect an additional $25 million on Thursday. Most analysts are now predicting that the film will wind up earning $150-160 million over the Fourth of July weekend. Spider-Man 2 holds the record for the holiday, $180 million. Meanwhile, despite blistering reviews, The Last Airbender opened on Thursday with about $16 million, Paramount said today (Friday), making it the fifth-biggest Thursday opening of all time.
UPDATE:
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse took in $28.5 million on Friday. Airbender, $16 million.
