Top executives at CBS have discussed the possibility of buying out the remainder of Katie Couric’s contract in September and replacing her on the CBS Evening News this fall, New York magazine reported on its website today (Friday), citing people familiar with the conversation. However, the magazine noted, CBS News chief Sean McManus and CBS CEO Les Moonves rejected the idea. “Leslie is incredibly supportive,” one person familiar with Moonves’s thinking told New York. “Moonves and Katie have an excellent relationship.” Meanwhile, NBC CEO Jeff Zucker has reportedly told Couric’s agent that NBC would welcome her return.
