The debut of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief won the trifecta last week. It was the top DVD seller on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart, No. 1 on the Blu-ray sales chart, and No. 1 on Home Media magazine’s rental chart. The initial success of the film on home video comes despite a so-so theatrical run. Although Fox had hoped to turn it into the next Harry Potter-type franchise — it was directed by Chris Columbus, who directed the first two Potter flicks — the film managed to bring in just $88.8 million, while reportedly costing about $100 million to produce.
