U.K. TABLOID SETTLES PITT-JOLIE LAWSUIT

News Corp’s weekly, the News of the World, is the latest British tabloid to settle a suit by a celebrity maintaining that it had printed false allegations about the celebrity’s personal life. The latest case involved Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who sued the weekly after it published an article claiming that the pair had visited a divorce lawyer last December to work out a deal to divide their assets and work out custody of their children. Their attorney, Keith Schilling, said that he had asked the newspaper to retract the allegations and apologize but that it had instead published an additional story that the couple had argued about who had leaked the original item. The reports were picked up by other newspapers, said Schilling, and “spawned an array of false stories” all over the world.”
