87-YEAR-OLD LOS ANGELES TV NEWSMAN STEPPING DOWN

Stan Chambers, who has worked as a newsman for the same television station, KTLA in Los Angeles, for the past 63 years, a record in the broadcast news business, is retiring from the station today (Wednesday) at the age of 87. In an interview with today’s Los Angeles Times Chambers remarked, “I really do feel part of Los Angeles. … I can go anywhere and have memories of what happened. I can say, ‘I was there,’ or ‘We did this.’ It really is a special feeling and I will miss it terribly. I’m sure that’s why I put this off for so long.”
