GAY ROMCOM FINALLY GETS A FIRM RELEASE DATE

After its domestic release was postponed four separate times over the past year — with some observers predicting it would never see the light of day in America — I Love You Phillip Morris now has a new distributor and its fifth release date, December 3. Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment announced Thursday that they had agreed to distribute the film, which stars Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as gay lovers, after Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp and producers Andrew Lazar and Far Shariat threatened legal action against the film’s previous distributor, Consolidated Pictures Group, which had allegedly failed to come up with the funds to pay for its distribution and marketing. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2009 to mostly positive reviews and later earned about $18 million in five countries, Britain, France, Italy, Russia and Taiwan. In a statement on Thursday, Roadside Attractions Co-President Howard Cohen said: “This is a film that everyone has been talking about and we’re thrilled it became available again, as we had been in hot pursuit of it at Sundance and were disappointed it was one that got away.”
