TIGER’S NOT THE STAR, BUT PGA TELECAST DRAWS SOLID RATINGS

Forget all about the talk of golf going down the tubes without Tiger Woods being in contention. Although he seemed not to be struggling as much as he had in previous recent outings, he was never a real contender during Sunday’s PGA Championship at Whistling Straits — certainly not during the primetime overrun. Nevertheless, the primetime portion of the coverage averaged a solid 8.22 million viewers for CBS. Indeed, CBS handily won every half-hour of primetime Sunday night, with particularly strong performances by the venerable magazine show 60 Minutes, which actually added viewers following the PGA telecast, with an estimated 10.2 million viewers, and the reality show Big Brother, which grabbed 9.4 million.
