UNIONS REACH EARLY PEACE ACCORDS WITH AMPTP

The possibility of another crippling strike within the TV and movie industries appeared more remote Wednesday as the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers announced that its deals with the five basic crafts unions had been ratified by their members, thereby “ensuring that production can continue without interruption for the studios and union members.” The agreements come just weeks after similar deals were concluded with the Teamsters Union. Meanwhile, members of the joint bargaining committee of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are expected to meet this weekend to hammer out their own contract proposals to the AMPTP, which they will put forward when negotiations begin on September 27.
