Paramount movies and Viacom’s cable programs won’t be coming to iTunes or Apple’s new Apple TV device if Steve Jobs sticks to his 99-cent pricing. As reported by Home Media Magazine, Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman told an investor group in New York last week: “We don’t think that works for us. We don’t think that works for the industry. It’s not a good price point. And for that reason we are not supplying our programming.” Viacom’s deal with Redbox to allow Paramount’s DVDs to become available for 99 cents on the same day they hit retailers’ shelves was quite another matter, Dauman explained, because Redbox is forking over $575 million for new releases through 2014, he said. “Given the economics are much more accretive from Redbox, we saw there was incremental revenue opportunities for us,” Dauman said. “Should that change, we have the opportunities down the road to change the deal.”
