A British police watchdog agency had urged that an independent review be conducted of Scotland Yard’s handling of the News of the World telephone hacking scandal but then decided against the review because of lack of “resources,” Britain’s Guardian newspaper reported today (Friday). The disclosure of the findings by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary could force the police agency to review its own actions even as several politicians and celebrities who may have had their voice mail hacked by Rupert Murdoch’s popular tabloid call for a judicial review of the police handling of the case.
