EX-VARIETY FILM CRITIC MCCARTHY HEADS FOR HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

Suggesting that the new owners of the Hollywood Reporter are committed to reviving the ailing trade publication, it was announced Wednesday that Todd McCarthy, the longtime film critic for Variety, had been brought aboard by the Reporter‘s new editorial director, Janice Min. McCarthy, who was fired by Variety after 31 years as part of a drastic personnel cutback last March, had been immediately hired by Indiewire.com, the lively independent film website. But the website has seen its own internal turbulence in recent months. Last month it lost its editor and co-founder, Eugene Hernandez, who was named director of digital strategy for the Film Society of Lincoln Center in New York. In an interview with today’s New York Times, McCarthy said that he was grateful to Indiewire but couldn’t pass up the “very interesting offer” he received from the Reporter.
