Toshiba has unveiled a new “personal” TV set that allows a single viewer sitting close to the screen to watch 3D movies without having to wear glasses. In a demonstration in Tokyo today (Monday), Toyota described how its “perpendicular lenticular sheet” technology directs light from the screen to nine points in front of the TV. A viewer seated within the “zone,” Toshiba said in a statement, would be able to watch high-quality 3D images, regardless of the viewing angle provided he or she is seated within the optimal zone. Initially, the 3D sets will come in just two sizes, 12 inches, priced at $1,400 — tiny by today’s standards — and 20 inches, priced at $2,800.
