REPORT: MICHAELS TO SIGN OFF AS TRIB CEO THIS WEEK

Randy Michaels, the embattled CEO of Tribune Co., emerged from a meeting of the company’s board on Tuesday and figuratively thumbed his nose at reporters who were expecting him to be fired. “I work here today and I’m still working,” he said. The New York Times, which first reported the impending ouster, citing a source directly involved in the discussions, said later that the board agreed that Michaels should resign soon but stopped short of immediately asking for his resignation. However, the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, both of which are Tribune newspapers, reported late Tuesday that Michaels has agreed to submit his resignation by the end of the week and that the board intends to replace him with a four-member office of the president, whose members would include Los Angeles Times publisher Eddy Hartenstein; Chicago Tribune publisher Tony Hunter; Nils Larsen, Tribune Co.’s chief investment officer; and Don Liebentritt, chief restructuring officer.
