SOMETHING FOR EVERY TASTE AT MEGAPLEX THIS WEEKEND

Just about every movie genre will be represented at the megaplex this weekend. You want a family film? There’s the animated Megamind, the latest 3D offering from DreamWorks Animation and Paramount. You want a raunchy male-oriented comedy? There’s Warner Bros.’ R-rated Due Date, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Zach Galifianakis and Robert Downey Jr. You want a drama for women in general, African American women in particular? There’s Lionsgate’s For Colored Girls, directed by Tyler Perry and starring an all-star cast including Whoopi Goldberg and Janet Jackson. You want a real-life political/spy drama? There’s Fair Game, in which Naomi Watts plays former CIA operative Valerie Plame and Sean Penn plays her husband, former ambassador Joseph Wilson. And of course there’s those two holdover horror movies from last weekend, Paranormal Activity 2 and Saw 3D. Box office gurus are predicting that Megamind will likely draw megabucks and top the box office with around $50-55 million. Due Date is likely to come in second with $30-35 million. The big question mark is For Colored Girls, which is receiving widely divergent reviews and is likely to spark widely divergent opinion from moviegoers this weekend, according to analysts. Because it’s being screened in fewer than 50 theaters, Fair Game is not really in play. Likewise, Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours, which is being shown only in four theaters.
