BEST BUY TO SELL $60 BLU-RAY PLAYER ON BLACK FRIDAY

In a move that would seem to treat the Blu-ray Disc player the way Gillette treats its razors, Best Buy plans to sell the Toshiba BDX1100 player for just $59.99 on Thursday, Nov. 26 — Black Friday. Presumably the retailer is hoping that drastically reducing the price of the player will spur sales of the disks. The unit, however, is not able to access the Internet to offer streaming video, the way many higher-end models can, but Best Buy is also planning to sell the Sony BDPS370 Blu-ray player for $99.99, which can stream movies from NetFlix, Amazon and other online video-on-demand sites. Best Buy is also planning to offer blow-out pricing on Black Friday for numerous Blu-ray movies, with several relatively recent ones going for just $3.99.
