In a pact aimed at strengthening the ties between Hollywood and Bollywood, the world’s two leading motion picture production centers, the Motion Picture Association of America and representatives of the Indian film industry have agreed to work together to develop co-productions and battle piracy. At a ceremony at Paramount studios on Wednesday local officials and an Indian delegation signed what the MPAA called a “historic declaration” of cooperation. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa said that it “reinforces our city’s commitment to attracting international production.” He noted that seven Bollywood films were filmed in Los Angeles last year. Commented Indian producer Bobby Bedi: “India has always held a fascination for Hollywood, and this agreement pulls us closer together with the aim of sharing ideas and best practices on domestic and international film production.”
