Final box-office results for the past weekend were down a bit from Sunday’s estimates. Nevertheless, total ticket sales were up nearly 30 percent from the comparable weekend a year ago. Paramount/DreamWorks Animation’s Megamind topped the list with $46.02 million, well above the $30.05 million that Disney’s A Christmas Carol pulled in as it debuted at this time last year. Two other new films had solid debuts. Todd Phillips’s Due Date opened with $32.70 million, while Tyler Perry’s For Colored Girls earned $19.50 million. Summit Entertainment’s RED saw a small 19-percent drop in its fourth week to $8.65 million, while Lionsgate’s Saw 3D plunged 68 percent in its second week to $7.73 million.
