FINAL BOX OFFICE RESULTS WORSE THAN FEARED

Narnia ... Dawn Treader

Final figures for the weekend box office turned out to be even weaker than Sunday’s estimates — which themselves were well below analysts’ forecasts. The two top films, Fox’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and Sony/Columbia’s The Tourist each came in around a half million dollars below estimates. However, two films in limited release impressed. Playing in just four theaters, Paramount’s The Fighter was the per-screen champ as it earned $300,010 in 4 theaters, or $75,003 per theater. (It is due to open wide next weekend.) Playing in just 90 theaters, Fox Searchlight’s Black Swan earned $3,305,368 or $36,726 per theater, putting in the top ten list at No. 6. Overall, the box office was down nearly 6 percent from the comparable week a year ago.
