MOVIE REVIEWS: THE TOURIST
It may star two of the biggest box-office attractions in the business, but The Tourist is being walloped by the critics, who particularly lambaste the performances of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. 
Claudia Puig in USA Today calls the movie “laughably bad” and describes Depp’s performance as “wooden and unconvincing” and Jolie’s facial expressions vary “from wide-eyed and serious to wide-eyed with a slight smile.” Joe Morgenstern in the Wall Street Journal appraises their performances this way: “Mr. Depp, possibly expressing displeasure at the production as a whole, plays his character with dead eyes and steadfast torpor. Ms. Jolie’s eyes aren’t dead, exactly, but they’re weirdly glazed, and they work in concert with her pursed lips and exclamation-mark posture to create a kind of sex robot.” As for the movie itself, Joe Neumaier in the New York Daily News sums up: “What it all boils down to is an uninspired star matchup with travelogue shots thrown in.” But Chris Vognar’s review in the Dallas Morning News is likely to be quoted in upcoming ads for the movie. “The Tourist is a polished romantic distraction and a brief trip along the canals of Venice with some assured company. … [It] merely asks you to sit back and enjoy the ride, and then makes that task a breeze.
